Small fish tanks benefit greatly from nice illumination but sometimes the lamps coming with the kit are not strong enough or do not last for a long time once you start using them.
You might have a hard time trying to get exactly a replacement from the manufacturer.
If you are looking for a lamp to enhance the beauty of your tank or to replace the lamp coming with the tank once the one you have breaks, there are several factors to take into consideration, not just the features of the lamp itself.
1. What kind of lamp will do?
First of all, if there are live green plants in your tank, they need light for a few hours a day, to stay alive and to thrive.
Live plants are essential for the adequate balance of chemicals in the water, the survival of good microbes, the health of the whole tank.
It could be interesting to find out if the fish and other animals you keep in the tank are sensitive to the colors of the lights you use and if there is any particular color you should avoid.
There is a wide range of lamps offered to the buyer.
LED light lamps are long lasting, and are energy efficient.
2. Which size of lamp should you buy?
NICREW models have different sizes. They are built to place on top of a glass or acrylic cover and could be adjusted in length. The adjustable length is an important feature to look at.
Together with the power of the lamp, the colors of the LEDs, these details are shown on the side of the box, but maybe when you are looking at it in a website it is not shown clearly.
I found that the model listed above perfectly fits some of my aquariums, but I was not confident how easy it was going to be to place it simply on top of the cover.
There is also the factor of price: fancier ones have a timer which allows you to schedule their use, or can turn on the colors at different times.
This model does not have a timer, but then it is less expensive.
